How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

To explain why laser hair removal is so effective, it’s important to understand the hair growth cycle. It takes place in four stages:

Anagen

The active hair growth phase. Depending on where the hair is growing, this stage can last anywhere between 3-5 years. Laser hair removal treatments are most effective when the hair is in the anagen phase.

Catagen

The hair growth slows, and the follicles shrink for ~10 days after the anagen phase ends.

Telogen

During this phase, hair doesn’t grow, but it doesn’t fall out either. It’s in a resting stage.

Exogen

The hair sheds naturally, and the cycle begins again.

With laser hair removal, the handheld device sends a concentrated light beam into the hair follicle and destroys the hair. With repeated treatments, hair growth is significantly slowed down and reduced.

Not all hairs are in the same phase at one time, so you may need multiple treatments to remove all hair follicles. In addition, different parts of your body have longer hair growth cycles; your legs and back have a longer growth cycle than the facial area. As such, treatment times will vary.

Our Laser Hair Removal Services

At Spotless Laser Medical Aesthetics, our treatments offer long-lasting results. Laser hair removal is less painful than other hair removal methods like waxing.

We use gold standard, industry-leading European and Canadian lasers, including Diode, Nd:YAG, and IPL.

Our estheticians select and program the laser based on your hair and skin colour. Using the Fitzpatrick Scale, we determine which device will offer you the best results. For example, the Nd:YAG Laser is best for South Asian & Middle Eastern people, while the Diode is suitable for all skin tones and hair types.

If you’re thinking about trying laser hair removal, we recommend starting your treatment before summer arrives. That way, you won’t have to worry about shaving or waxing during pool season.
