In Preparation for Your Treatment
All new patients to our clinic, or new to a particular procedure, will be asked to fill out a medical health history form. It will be helpful to know the following information ahead of time so that you can answer all the pertinent questions on the form:
Medications
What kind of medications are you currently taking? This includes pharmaceutical drugs, vitamins, or any natural supplements. We need to know this information because certain compounds can affect your skin in ways that could cause an adverse reaction. For example, some ingredients can make your epidermis thinner, more prone to bruising or bleeding, or sensitive to light.
You may be asked to stop taking a supplement containing certain ingredients, such as green tea or Omega oils, a few days prior to treatment. Other medications, such as Accutane, may need to have been discontinued for six months before treatments such as microneedling or energy devices.
Topical Active Ingredients
The same applies to any topical skincare products you may be using, particularly if they’re prescription-based. You’ll be asked to discontinue using any of the following for at least one week prior to your aesthetic treatment: retinol or Vitamin A, Vitamin C, skin acids such as alpha hydroxy or lactic acid, acne medication like benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, or any other harsh or active ingredient.
Make sure to write down all the skincare products you’re using at home so that your skin therapist is aware of them. You will be advised if any are contraindicated for your particular type of treatment and will need to be discontinued.
UV Exposure and Tanned Skin
Make sure to avoid excessive sun exposure prior to your appointment. If you have a sunburn or your skin is tanned, certain procedures such as IPL, laser or microneedling will not be able to be performed. To avoid disappointment and having to reschedule, we recommend staying out of the sun for at least two weeks prior to your treatment.

Day of Your Procedure
Successful Treatment Begins with Clean Skin
Please arrive at your appointment without makeup if possible. Although your skin will be lightly cleansed in preparation for your treatment, not wearing any makeup will make the cleansing process more efficient and reduce any chance of skin irritation.
If your procedure is going to be performed on the body, avoid applying thick body lotion, oil or heavily perfumed products that can irritate your skin. Wear loose-fitting clothing if you’re having laser treatment on the body to allow your skin to breathe following your treatment.
If you’re booked in for Laser Hair Removal, we ask that you shave the day before. This will ensure that your procedure goes smoothly. For more details visit our page on How to Get the Most Out of Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment.
We’ll Make You Comfortable
Topical numbing agents are available to make sure your procedure is as painless as possible. If a number cream is required, you’ll be asked to apply it ahead of time, or to come in early so that we can apply it for you. Some of our procedures don’t require a numbing cream; however, if you have a very low tolerance level to pain, you can request a numbing cream to make you feel more comfortable and at ease.
All our procedures have little downtime and you’ll be able to return home almost immediately. You’ll be provided with detailed post-care instructions to follow at home. In the next section below we’ll cover the do’s and don’t of home care to ensure a smooth healing process and speedy recovery.
Post Treatment Overview
Depending on your treatment, you may be red and swollen immediately after. If possible, we recommend taking the rest of the day off to go home and relax.
Homecare Do’s
If you’re given post-treatment products such as a balm or cream, make sure to apply it as directed. If you need to leave the house, you’ll be provided with Jane Iredale mineral makeup to cover up any redness. Let your skin rest as much as possible for the first 24 hours.
Homecare Don’ts
Avoid sun exposure, vigorous exercise and heat (sauna, steam) for a minimum of 48 hours post treatment. Use gentle cleansers on your skin and discontinue using products that contain the active compounds discussed above (for a minimum of one week), harsh/irritating ingredients or fragrance.
Maintain the Result of Your Professional Treatment
You’re going to love the results of your professional treatment. Whether you’re addressing aging, acne scars or other types of skin concerns, your treatment shouldn’t end at the clinic. In fact, you will experience results much faster and longer if your professional treatment is accompanied by a consistent home care regimen.
Your experienced skincare therapist will recommend all the products you’ll need to ensure the success of your procedure at home. It’s very important to know that once you leave the clinic, diligent use of the recommended products are your responsibility. We strongly encourage you to follow home-care instructions exactly as directed. Failure to do so may impact your recovery and long-term outcomes.
